Hi, I'm Olivier

Olivier's Profile Picture

I moved to Canada from Mauritius in 2018 to study Computing Science at the University of Alberta and graduated in spring 2022 with a BSc Specialization in the field.

Given the highly technical nature of my studies, I worked with various databases, technologies and programming languages. I was exposed to multiple datasets - in diverse formats - from my university courses and my side projects. Sales data. City map data. Disease-related data. Just to name a few.

I also did some software development during my studies. As part of a scrum team, I contributed to the development of a book-lending Android app. More specifically, I developed the book scanning feature of the application using Firebase's ML services and the Google Books API. I also worked in a team of 5 developers to build a web application that allows users to create and exchange posts. I focused mainly on ensuring proper handling and storage of the application's data. I also helped build the app's API service that loosely followed the ActivityPub specification, which allowed Peer-to-Peer connections with other hosts.

In spring and summer of 2021, I acquired an invaluable research experience in Dr. Levi Lelis' lab at the University of Alberta. I honed my analytical and communication skills as I collected, examined and conveyed the results from more than 500 experiments that I conducted on Compute Canada's Beluga cluster using three of my own benchmarks for the task program synthesis. In developing these aforementioned benchmarks, I successfully designed a Domain Specific Language for the synthesis of programmtic strategies for three arcade games: Pong, Catcher & Flappy Bird.

In my final year of university, I was able to re-affirm my passion for working with data as I became more exposed to the subject and dealt with increasingly interesting datasets. Now, more than ever before, I want to - responsibly - deliver the boons of my field.
